We are a bit like that when it comes to moving forward, it takes small incremental changes to get there, but once we are on track and the path ahead is clear it's all about forward momentum to get there.
Every client is different, each has their own reason for working with me, their own objectives and drivers. Each person has a different relationship with food and exercise, most have reached the point where the pain to stay the same is greater than the pain it will take to change. They just feel stuck ..
This is true of all of us when we change something .. it's hard! it takes commitment, it takes time. This is the point in life where if we ask for help and support, we get there faster! This is her story :
Before starting to work with Colette, I was in a situation where I wasn't exercising at all. The idea of training in a gym overwhelmed me, and I was deeply dissatisfied with my fitness level and physique.

I have been trying to lose weight for a couple years now, but my progress had stalled and I was struggling with focus in the gym and with my training. Id lost interest in the process.

When I met Lisa she was 12 weeks out from having a c-section. She is one of those incredibly strong women who has experienced some dramatic changes in life and is cut from the cloth that says, I can do this, I can do anything. And she has proven that over the last 16 months.
This is her story :
I was pretty shaken up by the birth and felt like I didn’t recognise my body anymore.
It was literally my first time having a personal trainer. I didn’t really know what to expect. I guess, I didn’t want someone who would push me into weights that I wasn’t ready for.
It has been like a dream working with Colette - so much more than I ever expected. I can honestly say, working with her has helped me improved my confidence, build strength that I have never achieved in the last 39 years, and build more positive habits in my life.

When I met Sam, and she showed me her curiosity, willingness to give things a go and determination to push hard I knew she was going to do brilliantly.
This is her story :
Before we started working together I was not confident in the gym, I tended to stick to a bit of cardio and a couple of weight machines. I was stuck in a rut, and didn’t really enjoy going to the gym. This meant I wasn’t seeing much benefit which made me even less enthusiastic.
I was a bit nervous about PT as a concept as aware I would be pushed out of my comfort zone !!
The process of working with Colette can be described in one word – awesome !! She pushed me when she could but also backed off when I struggled which really helped motivate me. The variety of exercises was fantastic, even if I didn’t enjoy all of them 😊
The one best result from working with Colette so far has been in my confidence in the gym so I now go regularly.
I am now making the gym part of my weekly routine especially weight training which I really enjoy. Also making sure I push myself rather then just take it easy !! I also really enjoyed our chats about nutrition and am constantly looking at ways to improve my food choices.

I started working out as I was feeling my body wasn't able to do what it was designed to do. I felt low in mood and energy.
I was very clear from the start that I wouldn't talk about my eating habits. Colette did ask me about it but she wouldn't press on discussing it, which I appreciate.

Jane is the person recovering from leg and ankle injury not once but twice. While most of us would have given up and sat in front of the TV with a family size Ben and Jerry's to commiserate she got up and got moving, getting back to exercise as soon as she could!
When her ankles scream, she takes a break and tries again .. every time Jane gets to the gym, she proves how resilient she is. Just amazing to see!

Before training with Colette I was quite despondent with my exercise and finding it difficult to find motivation. I had been passed from one personal trainer to the next and felt like I was going to make no progress.
I was however impressed by Colette's contagious positivity and decided to give it a go. Colette has been very patient and provided constant motivation when mine was low. I enjoy our sessions and always leave feeling positive. I have also seen increased muscle mass and a decrease in body fat.
The thing I will take forward is the belief that I can create change in my life and health, it is never too late.

I met Colette during a particularly difficult time in my life and her sessions had a huge impact on my mental health. Colette supported me to achieve way beyond my initial goals and I would never have believed I could do the exercises she put in the plan but little by little I got stronger and started believing in myself more.
Her plan was focussed and tailored to me. It was very achievable too and built gradually each week It also never got boring as Colette keeps things varied, challenging and fun!!
We laughed a lot during out sessions and it was just the medicine I needed! By the end of our time together my goals had changed to focus more on how I was feeling rather than a number that I needed to hit and I became someone who is now consistent and focussed with my exercise habits!
Before working with Colette I found the gym to be a very intimidating place! I mainly just used the treadmill for fear of embarrassing myself trying to work the other machines. I exercised regularly but wasn't getting any results.
From previous personal trainers I had worked with my fear was the plan would not be tailored to my specific needs and that it would be all talk but no results and just a lot of repetition.
Working with Colette has been Life changing. I got so much more from our sessions than I expected. She was the first trainer to even take my measurements. I started to desperately look forward to our one hour a week. It was my ‘me’ time and I knew it would be challenging and hard but that I would feel a sense of achievement when I left.
I came in hoping to lose weight but I left feeling strong both physically and mentally. I felt like Colette really listened and truly cares about her clients. I found her to be very inspiring and motivating.
What I loved the most is how much the plan changed over time to keep me interested and there was a plan for the days I wasn't seeing her which I never got with my previous personal trainers. My confidence in the gym grew to the point I started trying classes that I would not have dared to try before.
The one best result I got apart from the body transformation was self belief and pushing past my own limiting beliefs. I eventually stopped focusing on my weight and just enjoyed feeling good in myself and feeling strong.

When I asked Jennifer for some feedback on her experience of working with me, this is what she said.
Before working with Colette I had just finished cancer treatment - including major surgery and chemotherapy - my body and hormones were all over the shop. Still, I knew I needed to get back into improving my well-being to reduce cancer recurrence risk and to feel stronger and more like myself.
I was a little intimidated because she's so well respected and loved by everyone in the club, it made me worried that I was so out of shape I'd not be able to keep up or commit to a programme and she'd drop me.
The process of working with Colette has been tremendous. She is an inspiring woman - from day 1 she took the time to get to know me, my health history, concerns, and goals to shape a programme suited to me. She's patient and on days when I'm too tired or have low energy she matches my vibe and selects exercises that get the job done without breaking my spirit :)
I'm much more confident using the equipment and doing workouts on my own as well. The benefit goes beyond just working out - she's becoming a friend and it's been a joy to get to know her personally too. We often swap stories and recommendations for books, podcasts, recipes, and supplements. She's super supportive and a joy to work with - it motivates me to stay focused and persevere.
The best result that I have had so far is that I'm back in the gym on a regular schedule and feel stronger all around.
As a result I'll be more consistent with going to the gym and following a workout plan. And continue to push myself even if it's not necessarily an enjoyable exercise in the moment! :)

When I met Marilise, she had been taking part in my cycle classes at a local gym. Before we introduced ourselves I was drawn to her huge smile, had noticed her gorgeous shoulders and her love of fitness was evident. When we spoke her genuine curiosity about life was a value we shared and I couldn't wait to work with her. In our initial chat, she said that "this is the year I am getting into the best shape of my life", in mind, body and business .. and that my friends is exactly what she did!
Here is her story :
I lost almost half my body fat. I am now in the same range as professional athletes. So why did I decide to do it?
Last year I turned 40, and even though I was fit – I did the 100 miles Prudential Ride London cycling tour the day after I turned 40 – I felt fat. I was also mentally and physically exhausted – on the verge of burnout. So after 20 years, I left my corporate job and took a few months out. That’s when the soul searching started. I had to reconnect with my why, and I was at my lowest point when I decided to start my own business, as a high performance and leadership coach and trainer. In doing so, and through my own training, I had a stark realisation that I had to ‘practice what I preach’ and the logical next step was to focus on my own mental and physical health. I then set myself a goal for 2018: To get into the best shape of my life – for life.
With Colette's help, my incredible coach, I achieved my goal. Now, I am not going to lie and say it was easy. I had to work hard at it – every single day, some days the motivation is not there. But I’ve learned to be kind to myself. Not to beat myself up about it when I don’t have a perfect day.
The two BS beliefs I had about food and exercise, which completely transformed my life. So simple, yet so profound:
#1 Cardio is king.
I love cycling and I am in my happy place on my bike. It’s still one of my favourite things to do – it clears my mind and I often tell people it’s my ‘Prozac’. So when I turned 40 last year, I couldn’t understand why I was so heavy, despite being cycling fit. Well, it turned out that cardio isn’t king. Most of my workouts now include power walks, HiiT (high intensity interval training), strength and resistance training.
#2 Fat is the enemy.
Growing up I used to eat everything low fat or fat free. I was raised to believe that fat is the enemy. Now I eat everything full fat. And a lot of it. And I am loving it – avocados, nuts, Greek yogurt, olive oil etc. All those things I didn’t use to eat because I thought they were bad for me.
Not only am I in the best shape I’ve ever been, my business is doing great, and I am happy. It’s only after I turned 40 and realised that I was unhappy at work, that I decided to prioritise ‘me’ on my list of priorities. And I can honestly say that it’s been the best decision ever.

This is her story ..
I’d never lifted a weight in my life! I have scoliosis and about a year and a half ago, after a very bad back and shoulder pain issue, I was advised by doctors to start lifting heavy weights to strengthen my body and reduce pain flare ups going forward.
I had no idea where to start. I’ve always been fit and active, but exercise was always cardio, mostly spinning and swimming. I also saw exercise as just something I had to do to stay fit and thin and I never really enjoyed it.
The idea of having to decrease the cardio to fit in weights was pretty daunting, coming up with a training plan, going to that side of the gym (the weights side) where everyone seemed to know what they were doing .. was all just quite overwhelming.
At the time I was also just very skeptical of how much progress I could actually make given my condition.
I had no reservations about working with Colette. Colette was my spin class instructor and loved her energy, style and how she interacted with the class. I’ve been to many spin classes with different instructors, but no one engaged the class like she does. So I asked Colette to PT me.
I was a bit nervous before my first few sessions as you’re working with someone you don’t know, weightlifting was completely new and I was worried about injury – but Colette made me feel so at ease and comfortable.
It’s been a journey! But a great one. I went from a complete weightlifting newbie to someone who is now obsessed and trains 5x a week.
Colette has helped me tailor and adjust my training program over time as I built up from initially training twice a week, got stronger and ate better, to where I am now.
She’s constantly giving me new things to try and motivate me as well as giving me advice if I get ‘stuck’ or feel like I can’t progress in a particular area.
Colette has given me all the tools and techniques for weightlifting to allow me to train myself – from technique, diet and training plans.
Colette has helped me navigate my body limitations from my scoliosis, helping me work through injuries, giving me exercises and stretching to help, as well as tailoring exercises and my plan to accommodate what my body can and can’t do.
I was also very nervous about using a squat rack on my own and pushing myself without support. But Colette showed me how to set up safely and various safety tips for how I could feel comfortable squatting and bench pressing on my own.
I now train 5 x a week on my own and feel very comfortable with the racks, machines and my ability to push myself.
Learning to weightlift from Colette has changed my life more than I could ever have imagined. I’m completely hooked! I feel the most body confident I’ve ever felt. And most importantly I don’t get scoliosis- related pain like I used to
I can now deadlift over 2xbw and squat 1.5bw. My greatest achievement though is my 5xbw leg press!
If someone was to tell me a year ago that I would be weightlifting 5x a week and not really doing any cardio, I just wouldn’t believe them! I am 7kg heavier, have a much better diet and am stronger and happier than ever.

I have so much love for this lady, she has an incredibly strong drive to be the best she can be and inspite of immense heartbreak and huge shift in her personal circumstances she showed up, got through her workouts and proved her resilience from one session to the next. She is such an inspiration to me. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know her and I am so grateful she is in my life.
This is her story :
I first met Colette through attending a seminar she had organised on the menopause. I was in need of losing at least 2.5 stone and was fairly fit on CV equipment but my muscle strength/tone was very poor.
I had been a member of my gym for a number of years on and off and exercised through walking my dogs and only swimming. I had used the main exercise gym in the past but not for many years and was quite reticent about any formal CV or strength and conditioning programme.
Colette immediately put me at ease in the gym. She is an extremely kind and supportive person who listened to my personal needs regarding weight loss and overall fitness and tailored my programme accordingly.
She has also been an incredible personal support to me, motivating and supporting me not only physically but also emotionally as exercising usually leads to a mixture of these two elements. In particular, Colette has been a tower of strength as I've dealt with the death of of husband in the last year, tailoring my workouts in line with how I've felt both physically and spiritually.
She has great empathy with regard to the needs of women, particularly those approaching or in the throws of the menopause. Her role as a personal trainer has not only covered workouts but also a wealth of advice and information on all aspects of exercise, health, wellbeing and good eating habits as well as the importance of women being confident, strong individuals who believe in themselves.
The best result I have got from working with Colette is a great friendship but also weight loss, increased muscle tone/strength. I couldn't limit it to one! Going forward regular exercise, improved eating habits and greater confidence in my physical and mental strength/wellbeing are the skills I'm putting into practise.

I met Jenna when she was around 1 year postpartum after having her second child, she was on her way to full recovery and was doing some yoga and running and had decided that as soon as she was ready she was going to start weight training.
This is her story ..
My mum has osteoporosis and I learnt that resistance training particularly weights would help my bone density and be a good insurance policy against deterioration. It was all about gaining strength and feeling strong after childbirth.
My sister had a PT and found it really helpful in tackling new forms of exercise. I was planning to just do a few months of sessions to get me “set up” and then save money and train by myself. Needless to say a year later I’m still seeing Colette once a week! Not because I have to, but because I want to!
It’s been great working with her. She took photos and measurements when we started and throughout the process. For me it wasn’t about losing weight but even I’ve been surprised at the subtle changes working with Colette has resulted in.
My body is leaner, my posture is better, rather than just being skinny. I look and feel healthier! It’s also been great fun as Colette is a fountain of information and advice beyond the confines of exercise.

I’m an ambitious, driven and passionate individual – a ‘high achiever’ who makes winning a habit. I’m sure you know the sort. With my own cybersecurity business and IN Security Movement, I was becoming increasingly aware that my high energy was dwindling. With an important mission to do – to attract and retain more women in cybersecurity – I knew I needed to be supercharged, fit, healthy, and on form. I wasn’t. In fact, I’d started to put on weight around my midriff, something that had never really happened before. This is Rhona's story ..
Before we started working together I felt as though I had been on a long slide, as far as my fitness and well being were concerned, that was out of my control. I had put on weight gradually since I had my children and had no strategies that worked to reverse what seemed to be happening to my body. I talked about needing to lose weight all the time, went to the gym and cycled often, but felt like I was turning into a very matronly and miserable middle aged woman!!
My main reservations about committing to working with you were that I would fail my side of the bargain…and that it just might not work!
The process has been perfect for me. i.e. predictable, accessible and confidential….so that I felt ” safe” to give it a go. You didn’t make me feel stupid for trying!!
The best result has been my ongoing change in body shape and the fact that I did reach all of my goals.I have dropped two dress sizes and weigh what I did 15 years ago!!
All summed up yesterday, when I met someone again at work for the first time in 2 months. His first words to me were ” you’ve got smaller” and as these were words from someone who can’t say much, following his Stroke, they were worth even more!!

The 4 questions I ask my clients when they work with me ..
What was your situation like before we started to work together?
I would regularly join a gym in January, determined to get fit but would have probably stopped going by mid Feb. I wasn’t doing any exercise regularly and felt lethargic, out of shape and concerned about potential health problems I was storing up for the future.Intellectually I knew the benefits of exercising but I didn’t have any idea of what to do or how to go about getting fitter. I was pretty intimidated by the whole idea of getting fit and the thought of exercising filled me with dread; I had no confidence at all in my ability to do anything physical.
What reservations (if any) did you have about working with me before?
I was worried you would be appalled at how unfit I was and my diet. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do what you asked me to do and that you’d tell me (gently!) that there was no point in my training. I thought you might not have the patience required to help me start seeing results.
What has the process of working with me been like?
A revelation! You have introduced exercise into my life by stealth! I was essentially a lazy person who would happily spend a lot of time doing very little. Somehow (and I really don’t know how) you have persuaded me into the habit of exercising with the result that I now choose to do it! I can remember thinking that exercising 3 times a week was a sensible goal but I couldn’t imagine achieving it…now I’m choosing to exercise 4-5 times a week, every week and I miss it if I don’t do it. You have educated me not just in the various exercise options that I have and the benefits of each one but also given me a firm grounding in nutrition – all of which means I have the tools that I need to maintain a healthy lifestyle…and see results. My outlook on exercise and diet has changed completely, I’ve had a complete overhaul to my physical and mental attitude – which is permanent. You’ve persuaded me to try things I never thought I a) would be able to do and b) would enjoy….and I have to admit that every time you’ve suggested something new, you’ve been proven to be right! You’ve given me the confidence to get out there and try new things and turned around how I see myself.
What is the one best result you have got from working with me?
Making exercise an everyday part of my life that I miss if I don’t do and not being scared to have a go any more!

Before we worked together I was exercising about 3 times a week but doing the same pattern of classes or routine at the gym every week. I felt like I needed some motivation to change my pattern and kick start a different exercise regime. I also wanted to try and shed a few pounds in weight!
I didn’t have any particular reservations about working with you before we started regarding exercise, apart from overcoming my own resistance to doing some new exercises that were going to make me ache initially – no hiding at the back when it’s 1:1 training!! I was also a bit resistant to doing a detox which I understand from you would have been beneficial in combo with the exercise pattern particularly for weight loss.
I really enjoyed working with you – I felt incredibly supported and motivated by you in my sessions. I felt inspired by my intro session in that you took time to discuss the fitness questionnaire that I completed with you and that you considered ‘the whole person’ rather than in isolation to diet and exercise. I learned about the ability to push myself that bit further if I want to increase my fitness and stamina. I have also benefited from new exercises regarding core balance. It was useful to get feedback re your observation of my exercising ie that one side of my body seems to be weaker than the other and how to compensate for this when I start to tire. I also benefited from advice about a pattern of exercise I should undertake on a weekly basis ie. the balance of types of classes combined with other gym work which has encouraged me to do spinning classes – even though I haven’t yet fallen in love with them!!!
The one best result I got from you is that’ I can do it’! – I felt very motivated by the 3 sessions and have been inspired by you to push myself – doing spinning classes and trying to lift more weight in pump classes!! I would love to do some more PT work with you in the future either 1:1 or small group.

All of the above applied to me – I was overweight, lacked energy and was generally unfit. The journey to take me to where I wanted to be seemed too difficult and my self-confidence was at an all-time low. Shopping for clothes was just depressing and I’d become used to wearing outfits to hide my figure rather than show it off. I didn’t own a full-length mirror.

She’s worked me harder than I ever thought I could but it has just worked! I’m astounded at what I’ve achieved – my 6-month targets were achieved within 2 months – it’s amazing!
I’ve achieved so much during my time with Colette and learned so much about me – I’ve lost weight, got fit, changed my eating habits, love shopping for fitted clothes and bought a full length mirror! The best thing is that I feel confident, happy and fulfilled and now know that I really can achieve anything I want to.

What was your situation like before we started to work together?
I’d already begun my journey to fitness, down the usual route of trying to cut calories and attending classes at the gym. I’d managed to lose quite a large amount of weight but was starting to plateau and old habits were creeping back in. I had the willpower, enthusiasm and motivation but didn’t really know how to direct it effectively.
What reservations (if any) did you have about working with me before?
None – after meeting Colette (in a group exercise setting) her passion, enthusiasm and knowledge shone through.
What has the process of working with me been like?
Fantastic. From the outset Colette went out of her way to offer advice and help, from helping me with a training program to use whilst I was working abroad in a remote location with no gym access, through to expert advice about dietary supplements. I have completed many of her progammes and every time I’ve had fantastic results. What stands out every single time is the level of support, advice and help offered. The programmes themselves are well thought out, based on current research and effective and most importantly sustainable over the long term. I have totally changed the way I eat, for the better. I rely on her Vanilla protein shake, L-glutamine and Recovery Plus products to support my workouts and I wouldn’t be without them. Following Colette’s advice I have also incoporporated a range of her dietary supplements in to my life and they’ve made such a difference to my health and well being. During times of ill health Colette has gone out of her way to research and seek out specific supplements that will support my system. Personal training sessions with my fiance have been brilliant. The exercises are challenging, varied and tailored to us. The sessions are fun and being able to work out together has been a fantastic way to spend time together. What was your situation like before we started to work together?
I was very unfit, putting on weight (which was a constant worry) and changing shape, and never did any exercise, had no desire to join a gym, and was too tired at the end of the day to attend any classes.
What reservations (if any) did you have about working with me before?
No reservations about you, as I didn’t know you, however, had reservations about working out with fit people. When Toni told me about Boot camp in Surbiton at that time, and encouraged me to join, I was very nervous. There was no need to be, every one was at different levels of fitness and you were very encouraging and as the weeks passed, I found I enjoyed it and haven’t looked back ever since!!!
What has the process of working with me been like?
Excellent, never boring as you change the exercises constantly. It is also fun, and we have a laugh – mainly at my expense! You are also very motivating.
What is the one best result you have got from working with me?
Exercising on a weekly basis, and keeping it up!! It’s also good that you know what I have achieved, so many exercises I was unable to do i.e. The Plank and so many more. Plus gaining a lovely friend.

What was your situation like before we started to work together?
Before I started working with Colette I was doing myself more damage than good. I was trying to loose weight through intensive exercise that was damaging my bad knees more than helping, not loosing any weight and fed up with what seemed like a lot of effort for no results.
What reservations (if any) did you have about working with me before?
I was worried about the time I would need to make to see Colette on a regular basis, however she was very flexible and I often worked out before going to work in the mornings. I was also worried about my knees and if I could do exercise to help them. I needn’t have worried the one thing Colette does more than anyone else I have ever worked out with is understand my issues, work with them and help!

1) What was your situation like before we started to work together?
My situation before I started work with Colette was one of slight desperation to get back in shape, and pure intrigue in the food and recipes that I saw she was generating – they looked delicious and healthy! I wanted to work with Colette purely based on the food I knew she could advise me on how to cook, and how best to make life-long changes to my diet to help keep me feeling fit and healthy.

This last 12 months have been difficult and it was becoming increasingly easy to find a reason not to go to the Gym. I had in essence lost my mojo and with my son getting married in 9 months I needed to do something, sooner rather than later.
I needed to get back on track and was struggling to do it on my own. The easy option would have been to get a personal trainer at the Gym but I wanted something more than that, something more holistic, something more motivational. Colette has always managed to motivate me in the classes I attend.
She is always the consummate professional when taking classes at the gym and this professionalism is carried through with PT, starting with her initial health screening. Each session we do is different and challenging and nothing like the boring sessions I used do in the gym.
I had been discussing with friends the 5:2 diet but again couldn’t bring my self to get started. I discussed this with Colette and she supported me with food ideas and advice after approx. 8 weeks I have lost 12 lbs.’, my shape is changing and I feeling more positive and look forward to my classes again and dare I say it, a landmark birthday next year as I now feel I am doing something positive in determining how I will look and feel in the future.
